First Contact Practitioner service

Patients with back pain, joint pain, sprains, strains and other muscle, bone or joint problems can get specialist support through the First Contact Practitioner service.

The service gives patients access to an experienced physiotherapy professional who can assess their problem, explain what may be causing it and offer advice on how to manage their symptoms. For many patients, this means they can get the right help without needing to see a GP first.

Our patients can access the service at Eaton Socon Health Centre. The service is provided by DynamicHealth and supports patients across St Neots Primary Care Network.

First Contact Practitioners, also known as FCPs, can help with problems such as back, neck, shoulder, hip, knee, ankle or foot pain, as well as joint stiffness, sprains, strains and sports injuries. They can also advise on exercises, movement, managing symptoms and whether further treatment, tests or referrals may be needed.

Recent patient feedback shows the difference the service is making. Patients said they valued being listened to, examined carefully and given clear explanations about their condition. One patient said: “Took time to listen to me and genuinely seemed interested in my concerns. Explored my expectations.”

Patients also said they felt reassured by the explanations they received. A patient said: “My condition was explained in detail, which made me understand my condition and what the possibilities are for relief.” Another patient described their practitioner as “very thorough” and said they explained everything clearly, helping them feel “at ease throughout.”

Across DynamicHealth’s First Contact Practitioner services in Cambridgeshire, 97.4% of patients who responded to patient experience questionnaires rated their experience as good or very good. Between February and April 2026, the service provided 892 available 20-minute appointments across St Neots Primary Care Network, with patient contacts increasing each month.
